Locality: Akagera National Park, Eastern Province, Kayonza and N Districts (-2.053500, 29.545540) Abstract: Survey was completed from October 26 - November 3, 2023 by A. Sandrine Uwase, T. Poorter, and WRQ Luke. 189 herbarium specimens with duplicates were collected. Akagera National Park is a national park in eastern Rwanda, along the border with Tanzania. It's named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and is characterized by a variety of ecosystems, including savannah, wetlands, and lakes. The park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. It's a beautiful and important conservation area in Rwanda, offering a unique safari experience. Akagera National Park in Rwanda features a variety of vegetation types due to its diverse ecosystems. The park includes savannah, grasslands, wetlands, and woodland areas. Some of the prominent plant species you might find there include: Acacia Species: Acacia trees are common in savannah regions, and they provide important habitat and food sources for various animals. Euphorbia Species: Some parts of the park may have Euphorbia plants, which are succulent and adapted to arid conditions. Lakeside Vegetation: Along the shores of lakes within the park, you'll find aquatic plants such as papyrus reeds and other water-loving vegetation. Grasses: The savannah and grassland areas are likely to be covered with a variety of grass species, providing grazing grounds for herbivores. Woodland Plants: In the woodland areas, you may encounter different tree species, including species like the fever tree (Acacia xanthophloea) and various hardwoods.
